I’m a freelance designer based in Cape Town, South Africa. I’ve been freelancing for about 10 years, and before that I worked as an Interface designer/Multimedia artist/Animator/Developer at a range of agencies. My specialities are UI/UX design, illustration, 3D modelling and animation, however like most freelancers I make a point of constantly widening my scope and learning as much new technology as I can. I’m focused and driven, love my work and see it as an outlet for whatever creative energies I have.

I also play Jazz bass, write lots of science fiction short stories, and quietly work on personal 3D illustration projects in the little bits of downtime I have.

Smart, resourceful, Imaginative

Design is my work, my play, my obsession. We’re all visual entities, and my entire life has been shaped by design in some form or another. I was not to know at the age of 6 that my attempts to disassemble my father’s old betamax video recorder would herald a lifetime of obsession about how things work. Combine that curiosity with a keen mechanical sensibility and strong visual aesthetic and you’d have me, not in a nutshell, but pretty close.

I’m constantly evolving, learning, hungering to learn more, and I like to think that’s reflected in my work, both personal and commercial. Browse around and see what you think. Feel free to drop me a line.

My Approach

I like to meet clients face to face if possible, and at least I’d want to chat on the phone. Email tends to fall short as a meaningful communication device, and I’d rather ask questions, jot down notes and ideas as we chat about the client’s hopes and aspirations for the project. There are some projects where a decent chat is essential, especially if you are working on a personal brand. You need to hear the voice, find out about their personality and drive. No matter how much you email and IM, you will never fully ‘get’ the person if you don’t at least talk in person.

Once we have chatted, I’ll go away and generate a rough costing which encompasses the scope of the project. I like receiving constant client feedback, and am mindful to keep them in the loop. I send designs and deliverables on predetermined milestones and try my best to accommodate unexpected eventualities and curveballs. I prefer to have some rapport with clients as I feel that enhances the end product and also means I take personal interest in the work.

I’m always thinking about creating. My future starts when I wake up every morning… Every day I find something creative to do with my life. – Miles Davis
